pharmaSuisse Swiss Pharmacists Association, the Association of Swiss doctors FMH and the Federal Office of Public Health have joined forces to produce a fact sheet containing information and recommendations related to the use of antibiotics.

The European Commission has published parts of the new work programme 2018 – 2020 for “Horizon 2020”. They also include calls for proposals on the topic of antimicrobial resistance.

Resistance to antibiotics will be discussed in Switzerland in the week of 13 to 19 November 2017. The setting of ‘International Antibiotic Awareness Week’ provides an opportunity to address and discuss many aspects of this topic.

A preliminary survey among the Swiss population regarding antibiotics and the problem of antibiotic resistance provides important  insights for the implementation of the StAR strategy

StAR publishes an electronic newsletter that regularly informs interested people about the status of the implementation of the StAR strategy.

At the annual programme meeting of the ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’ National Research Programme (NRP 72), researchers and representatives of the Strategy on Antibiotic Resistance (StAR) came together to exchange ideas and experiences. The main focus of their discussions were the initial results of the 40 or so projects underway.

The Fribourg Veterinarians Association and the Food Safety and Veterinary Office of the Canton of Fribourg have adopted a best «practices charter» in which veterinarians subscribe to guidelines which respect the aims defined in StAR on the appropriate use of antibiotics.

From 12 to 18 November 2018, international bodies including the World Health Organization (WHO) are initiating another World Antibiotic Awareness Week to raise awareness of antibiotic resistance among members of the public, professionals and political decision makers across the globe.

Synopsis of Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017

Talking about antibiotic resistance – this is the aim of the International Antibiotic Awareness Week, which will be held  from 13 – 19 November 2017 in many different countries. Switzerland is also taking part in 2017.
