World AMR Awareness Week

WAAW

World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign taking place each year from 18 to 24 November. The aim of the campaign is to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance and to encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policymakers. In Switzerland, WAAW focuses on resistance to antibiotics.

WAAW 2024

«Educate. Advocate. Act now.» was the theme of the 2024 edition of World AMR Awareness Week, which traditionally takes place from November 18 to 24. Switzerland was also actively involved. Many organisations and stakeholders committed to raise awareness by providing information about antibiotic use and the development of resistance. WAAW 2023

To mark the annual World AMR Awareness Week, various activities and information events were held on the theme of ‘preventing antimicrobial resistance together’. The aim was to make a valuable contribution to curbing antibiotic resistance and to increase the visibility of the topic among the public, professionals and at the individual institutions. WAAW 2022

The eighth World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), organised by the Quadripartite bodies – the World Health Organization (WHO), World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) – was celebrated from 18 to 24 November 2022. The aim was to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance among the public, professionals and policymakers worldwide, focusing on the issue of growing antimicrobial resistance. True to the theme of “Preventing antimicrobial resistance together”, Switzerland was also actively involved in WAAW 2022. Presented here are some of the highlights of Switzerland’s WAAW 2022.
